Nationals Rocked!
Posted by CM under Romancery on Mon 16 Jul 2007
spent most of the day sleeping, trying to catch up on what I missed these last few days. I never wanted to go to bed; there were always great people there, great conversations to have, new people to meet. There were too many highlights to list. There were the free books. And the chance to meet so many FanLitters. There was Lisa Kleypas’s keynote speech (I cried when I heard about Vern). And then there were the free books. There were late nights spent practicing pitches (and grinning gleefully because I didn’t have to do one of my own, which transformed into confused frowns as I stupidly tried to pitch the book I hadn’t yet rewritten in the way I had thought about rewriting, which of course was an unholy mess). And the late nights spent talking about works in progress, plot holes that had cropped up, and coming up with Actual Solutions to (some) of them. There were late nights spent just talking, and nights spent in the bar. There were the chances to meet fantastic authors (too many to mention, but Eloisa James, Julia Quinn, Julie Anne Long, and Anna Campbell are standouts). And then there were the free books.
And you know what else? It was shocking how, in a conference with thousands of women, you could introduce yourself to one person and keep running into her again and again. By the end of it all, I was recognizing people everywhere I turned.
I can’t wait for San Francisco! I hope to see more of you there! And maybe by then, those of you who were pitching will have little pink “first sale” tags to sport. I’m sure some of you will.

And maybe you’ll have a pitch!
Have to admit, that part was fun *evil grin*

I hope it won’t be San Francisco before I see you again. Nationals wouldn’t have been the same without you. Thanks as always for your brilliant ideas and wonderful support. We had a good time, didn’t we!

It was great meeting you!!! Much better in person by far. Yes, I can’t wait til SF in 2007. This time you will be pitching and it will be so much fun! One more year and then the Windy City beckons.

Glad you had such a fabulous time and did such great work buying books at the literacy signing! And happy belated birthday - I thought of you when I saw the new HP on Wednesday and wished (as I did all week) that I was sharing the fun with all of you!

I can’t wait for SF! This was the most fun I’ve had in ages, and the least sleep I’ve had since my baby was born. I’m still on a high from it all…

Lacey, India, Bev, Tessa, Gillian–I loved meeting you all, and hope I’ll see you again next year.
Lindsey–Hope to see you then, with your book in hand and your new business cards for your rocking book trailer business as well.

/Me waves
As I’ve already blogged repeatedly, I really enjoyed meeting you, Courtney, and everyone else, of course!
Aside: How did I miss Gillian? Or did I meet her and not realize it? I met so many people, it’s entirely possible that I no longer remember everyone I met! That’s even more possible when you scarcely sleep for four nights running.
And I am (im)patiently waiting for the first chapters of Legalese. (I also finally got an angle on rewriting the first chapter of A Scandalous Liaison. You can expect to play guinea pig within a week or two :->.)

Sooo much fun meeting you on your birthday and hanging out with you during the week! I had a blast at National too. And it was weird how some people I *knew* were there (ie my roommates) I almost never ran into, and yet other people I would run into again and again, as though we were simultaneously drawn to the second-floor elevators by a force outside our control.

Wow, Erica, you should write books. That was exactly how I felt!

It was so great to finally get to meet you, CM. And wonderful to be able to be there to sing Happy Birthday to you. I look forward to seeing you in San Francisco.
And yeah, to seeing more pink ribbons on everyone.

Welcome back, CM! And happy belated birthday, too!
It sounds like everyone had a fabulous time.
Stupid question but who’s the Vern in Lisa’s speech?
July 17th, 2007 at 3:48 pm
Vern? Vern was Lisa’s cat.

It was great to finally get to meet you and so many other wonderful people from FanLit and all the blogs and boards.
I am looking forward to seeing everyone again in San Francisco and I am sure there will be a sea of ‘First Sales’ tags!!

CM, it was so great to finally meet you! Like you, I was exhausted when I got home. (And to be honest I’m still a little droopy) but I had a wonderful time meeting all the fanlitters and the other people I’ve come to know in online world. Can’t wait for San Francisco! It’s going to be a hoot! And I definitely see some pink ribbons in a lot your futures…

Nationals did indeed rock. Glad we all finally got to meet. I can’t wait to do it all over again! Maybe next time I’ll be able to pitch LAM and get some interest.
