The Duchess War…now uploaded.

So, The Duchess War is uploaded everywhere. Most vendors are still ruminating on the file, trying to figure out what they want to do with it. As soon as I have links (and as soon as I can check–I need to run out to dinner with my husband tonight because it’s our wedding anniversary, and strangely, he’s put up with my ignoring him all day–and last year I did the SAME THING with Unraveled) I will put them up here.

Thanks so much for your patience, everyone, and I hope you enjoy the book!

The definitive list thus far:

Note on print: B&N has the print version marked down substantially. I think that Amazon will match soon (I hope!) so you are forewarned.
We’re still missing Sony, Diesel, and several other smaller venues, but this launch is pretty close to complete. Sometime in February/March the audio version should go up.
Thank you all so much!

  1. Just finished it… I– that was a wonderful book. Thank you. Some tears were shed while reading the book. Usually I would resent any author that dare pull my heartstrings enough to make me cry, but I think I’ll make an exception in this case. Both the characters were wonderful. I’m looking forward to Lydia’s book. Happy Anniversary! Hope your book launch went well.

  2. This book was just incredible!! I stayed up late last night reading it because I had to know what would happen and I wanted Robert and Minnie to be happy. You said this book wasn’t easy for you, but you’ve worked so hard and it’s clear that the work has paid off–thank you. I fell in love with the book in a matter of minutes and I’ve already gushed to four people about it. One of those four people is a friend who’s never read a romance novel, and she was expressing concerns about anti-feminism in the genre but I’m so proud that I have books like these to point to and contradict the stereotype. I’m very pleased with your work, and I hope you are too!

  3. I spent all day yesterday reading the book (luckily my kids were gone to their dad’s house) and thought it was great! I can’t wait for the rest of the series! I loved both of the characters from the start and the plot kept me guessing. I also found myself tearing up as I read the book. I’ve liked all of your books, but I think this one is my favorite so far.

  4. I just finished it and wanted to you that while I didn’t love it as much as I love Unraveled (one of my top three romance novels of all time, probably), it was absolutely wonderful. The release date, for all that I’ve been waiting with bated breath for months, was also perfect. Just after I finished my last coursework essay, and a litte more than a week before my exam, so I could read it without feeling guilty.

I love the way you write, and can’t wait to read about Oliver, Sebastian, Lydia and Violet (I’m assuming she’s going to feature in one of them) in later stories.

  5. Sorry if this information is out there and I’ve missed it but is The Duchess War going to be available as a dead tree book too? I’m eager to read it but a bit of a luddite.

  6. Anne: I just approved the proof for the paper version last night, so as soon as the servers send out the information, you should be able to order it from Amazon (hopefully in the next day or two) and other bookstores (might take just a tad longer).

You can already order it from the CreateSpace estore: https://www.createspace.com/4089797

(But why anyone would do that, I don’t know–you don’t get Amazon prime benefits, or the “buy $25, get free shipping deals”).

  7. Yes, Dena, it absolutely will. I can only get on Overdrive through my agent, and so it takes just a little while longer to get everything processed there. It might be another week or so before it’s available for purchase there, but it WILL be available.

  8. Fantastic! I’ve been making sure that I purchase all your books electronically (and in print when I can) for my library. You’re pretty popular here in Philadelphia!

  9. That makes me so happy. I wouldn’t be a reader (or a writer) without my library when I was a kid, and so it’s really important to me to support them any and every way that I can.

I’ve been told that the file has been handed off to Overdrive. It usually takes them a little time to make it live, but it should be there in a week or so.

  10. Yes, an audio version is in the works. Rosalyn Landor (who narrated The Governess Affair) will be narrating THE DUCHESS WAR as well. She’s very busy (because she is amazing), but the audio version will be up in late February/early March.

  11. I read it the day it was released and absolutely loved it! I’m very excited for Lydia’s story – is that due to be released soon?

  12. I’m actually a big audiobook fan, and I’ve particularly listened to and enjoyed a lot of historical romance audio, so I’m thrilled at this news. Rosalyn Landor is my favorite romance narrator, and she is amazingly good at capturing the emotional nuances and voices in romance. She did a phenomenal job of narrating Lisa Kleypas’ books, and her Hathaway series narration is my all time favorite. I’m really happy you got her to narrate for you. I know your books will sound amazing.

For books I know I’ll particularly love (and I know this one will qualify), I’m fond of listening to the audio release first. However, I don’t think I’ll have the patience to wait for the audio of this one and will cave in and read it first! I hope as you get used to working with Ms. Landor, you’ll be able to better coordinate the audio with the book releases. Thank you for your wonderful books and best wishes for your continued success!

  13. @Anna:

I have been thinking about that precise problem. Since there isn’t a six month lag time in self-publishing, it’s a little harder. I *think* I may be able to get the lag time down to a month or a month and a half with audiobooks, but I don’t think it can come down anymore, since I have zero margin between finishing a book and posting it these days, and the book needs to be narrated and then mastered and Audible needs to do its quality check.

And if you get a good narrator (and Rosalyn Landor is the best), she’s booked up way in advance.

  14. I couldn’t decide where to put this but there seems to be a minor technical issue with The Duchess War and A Kiss For Midwinter. I got mobi versions of both from Smashwords, and there don’t appear to be any breaks between the sections within a chapter (space, stars, whatever). I figured you might want to look into that.

Also, I’d just like to say that I’m really looking forward to the next two books 🙂

  15. Thank you, Meri. There were in the file I submitted, but the Smashwords system stripped the formatting out. I cannot wait until Smashwords lets me upload an ePub.

I’ve fixed it now, and I think you should be able to download the new version from Smashwords.

  16. Thanks – I downloaded the new files and they both look fine now! Good luck with getting Smashwords to see things your way 🙂

And since I’m in correction mode: the book description on The Heiress Effect page is actually that of A Kiss For Midwinter.
