Proof by Seduction: Free! Early! Confusing!

So my publisher, HQN Books, is running a fabulous experiment with Living Social, which is apparently also known as Visual Bookshelf on Facebook. The experiment goes like this: They’re giving away free e-copies (alas, DRM restricted.)

Period. You now know everything I know.

The free copies are being offered, through some magic social media algorithm, to people who they think will like it. They’re going to send out up to 1,000 of them. I don’t know how you get one of these free, early copies–aside from (a) winning the social media algorithm lottery and (b) living in the United States, but at this point, it looks like there are 77 people who now have the chance to read PROOF BY SEDUCTION free and early. The confusing part, and the part I can’t help you with, is how you go about becoming #78.

Still: people are reading my book. Gulp!

  1. I tried the same thing as Eliza. I would love to get a free e-copy to read early! Of course I’ll still buy it when the dead tree version comes out; I’m bad like that.

  2. I just went to that site. Now I feel epically stupid. Not to say my ego wasn’t bruised before – but now it’s subterranean. *sads*

Heh – but *how awesome* that so many people have a chance to get your new book! Great buzz!

  3. I’ve been to that site once before, went back and quickly added some more books, including your Christmas anthology I already read. Sure would love to read Proof of Seduction sooner if I can, suggest you all add that title to your collection and mark it as “want to read” and see if that helps us.

  4. Just to let you know, I also received an invite to read the book but happen to live in Canada. Maybe they’re hoping to find a publisher/market up here?
I look forward to reading… Good luck.

    Cheers, Elaine Martin

  5. Elaine,

The book is being produced by HQN, a division of Harlequin Books, which is headquartered in Toronto–so they definitely have a publisher/market in Canada already!

I have no idea why Canadians aren’t included–I’m guessing it’s part of Living Social’s restrictions, not my publishers!

  6. Hey

Turns out you don’t have to live in the US. I live in SA (South Africa) and through Facebook, I received a free copy. Strangley enough although I *do* read historical romances, I don’t add them to my Visual Bookshelf, and *still* I was offered/sent a copy.

I’ll let you know what I thought.

  7. OMG! I received the free e-book copy of Proof by Seduction and I read it in a matter of hours. From the very first sentence, I was hooked. I just had to come here and tell you that I have fallen in love with this book, and Gareth!!! 🙂
Visual Bookshelf contacted me to have me sign up to get the book, and I will give any book a chance, but now I have a new book to obsess over. It was absolutely wonderful to read, and I am so glad that I got the chance to read it now, but for sure, I will pick it up when it hits the bookshelves in a solid form to add to my personal home bookshelf.
Again, this book was fantastic, five stars, absolutely one of the best reads I’ve read and I will read it over and over again.
I had no idea that I would like the genre, but now I know, and I will be watching for anything that you come out with in the future.
    Great work!!!
Thank you for contributing such a wonderful novel to the literary world!

  8. Ahh! I just can’t get over how lovely the story is. It made me feel all gushy and warm inside.

I’m glad that I was able to make your day.
I can try to do it everyday if you prefer. Just come back here and re-read my comment. 🙂

Well, I just pre-ordered my copy on Amazon and I will cherish it forever.

    Thank you again!

  9. Just so you know, if you’re looking for more good books, Tessa Dare is another fairly new author and she and I taught each other how to write books together. If you like my stuff, you’ll probably like hers, so you should consider giving her a try.

Her first book is called GODDESS OF THE HUNT.

  10. Hello. I got your book from the LivingSocial program and, well, you did a lot of damage to my body clock — I stayed up all night reading it. 🙂 Congratulations on your debut–you are going to make a lot of people very very very happy. 🙂

[I shall be posting a review on my blog soon. I don’t give stars, but I will no doubt be raving.)

Thank you for writing this book. 🙂

  11. Sasha,

Thanks so much for the praise and the review! I’m so glad you liked the book, and fingers are crossed that you continue to like my writing. And I would apologize for keeping you up at night… but somehow, yeah, I’m just not feeling all that sorry. 🙂
